Singapore faced Hong Kong in the the women's 7s final of the 2010 Jonah Jones 7s over last weekend. As with previous encounters, the result was by no means a given. Both teams battled out to a draw at the final whistle in normal time and it was Hong Kong who finally prevailed during extra time.

The Singapore Lioness had been struggling to find their form during the pool stages and nearly risked a early encounter against the Hong Kong Dragons in the Cup Semi Final with a narrow win over Hong Kong Varsity. However they held their nerve and showed a little more of what was to come in the finals in the Cup Semifinals against Singapore Recreation Club with a 31-0 win.

The two national sides met again for the second time in two months and this time Singapore was the first to put the points on the board. The first half was hotly contested at the breakdowns and Singapore had more breaks and should have converted those pressure into points when Tabitha Fong squeezed over the Hong Kong's line just before half time, but a call by the referee that the ball was held up kept both teams drawn with no points at the break.

In the second half, Singapore started brightly and Amanda Teo put the republic ahead taking the score to 7-0. Hong Kong wised up by releasing their sprint queen Aggie Poon on the wing and Singapore's rush defence worked against them with Poon putting in two tries in quick succession bringing the score to 10-7.

The Lioness's showed they were made of sterner stuff and came back with a try through Derelyn Chua. Eunice Tay's conversion shaved the posts bringing the game to extra time. Singapore kicked off the extra time and there was no denying that it was all-Poon by this time as she scored her hat-trick of the match.
