The Singapore A Women's 15s Team will make history this weekend by being the first women's development 15s side to take the field - a milestone for Singapore women's rugby.
The squad was selected by Singapore Women's National Head Coach, Sam Chan, who picked the young talents from the clubs which participated in the Guinness Singapore Rugby Women's 15s league. He is also the advisor the two women's coaches, Serena Yeoh and Wang Shao Ing, who will be leading the team against the Malaysian Babarians this weekend in Kuala Lumpur.
Rugby Development Manager (Women's) for Singapore Rugby, Eunice Tay said "That we were able to put out a Singapore A Squad and appoint women's coaches to take the team speaks volumes for the growth of the game here. Serena and Shao Ing have both received their Level 2 certifications and have several years of coaching experience with schools under the women's development programme."
On the game tomorrow, Tay quipped "Our forward pack is definitely smaller than the Malaysian Barbas but they are a fiesty lot and we shall have to rely heavily on the speed in our backs to create opportunities to score. I think we have good chance against the Malaysians."
