The inaugural Bucks Women’s 10’s tournament kicked off at Yio Chu Kang Stadium with an open running game between the hosts and Valley RFC from Hong Kong. The tourists took the early lead but Bucks fought back to seal victory by 17 points to 14, outscoring the visitors by 3 tries to 2.
Next in the round-robin competition, Blacks and SRC went head to head, with both teams mostly playing a tight, forward orientated game. Blacks had the edge though, breaking through to score two tries for a 12-0 victory.
With only 5 minutes to recover, Blacks, with their large squad, were then able to play an extremely competitive match against Valley. With rolling subs permitted, Blacks used their squad strength to good effect, matching the tourists try for try. A Valley conversion made the difference though, with the Hong Kong side edging it 12-10.
Match 4 featured Bucks and SRC in another close contest. SRC drew first blood with a long distance breakaway try. However Bucks dug in, using their powerful runners to great effect, going over for two tries and a 10-7 victory for the hosts.
SRC, also with plenty of strength in depth in their squad, then played back to back against Valley. For this game Valley definitely found their rhythm, running rings around the fatigued SRC to score 6 tries with no reply, rattling up a 34-0 final scoreline.
In the final match Bucks had the chance to collect a flawless 3 from 3 record. However their small squad of 12 players was outdone by Blacks who were determined to make amends for their narrow loss to Valley. Blacks ran in 4 unanswered tries to wrap it up 24 – 0.
