Singapore in 4th for ARFU

A win against against Uzebekistan proved to be a bridge too far for Singapore after their courageous show against Japan just two days earlier.

Singapore conceded 2 soft tries early in the first half and held Uzebekistan off in the second half until the two minutes before the final whistle when Uzbekistan broke through to seal the 15-0 win. Singapore were a shadow of the feisty team that had come back strongly against the Japanese and were unable to break the gain line with their pick and go game against the physically bigger Uzbeks who managed to slow the ball at the breakdowns.

Nonetheless, it has been Singapore's best outing yet in the ARFU Women's XV Champioships. Team Manager Audrey Koh is upbeat about her side's showing.

"Even though the team endured an ardoous journey of 30 hours just to reach Taraz, the spirits were high and fired up for the first game. The bonding off the field translated into a togetherness on the field that is more than expected with such a gruelling tour and long preparation for it."

"We are extremely happy with the all the player's performances, both senior and junior, expecially the rookies and reserves, who stepped up when called into action.

"This is a good development for the future of women's rugby, as the match experience will be with the girls for a long time to come this is also beneficial when the national campaign kicks off again for the RWC'09 Asian qualifiers in Hong Kong on the first week of October 2008."
