Top in 5 Asian Women's 7s feature youth at AYG 2013

16 August 2013

Asia’s women's rugby powerhouses will feature the talent coming through their ranks when their U17 teams run out on the Youth Oylmpic Sports Park in Nanjing this weekend at 2nd Asian Youth Games.

It will be the first time rugby sevens features in the multi-sport Asian event since the Olympic decision. Its inclusion will no doubt prepare the hosts to stage the running of an international rugby sevens tournament for the 2014 Youth Olympic Games to be held in what is regarded as one of the four great ancient capitals of China.

The five women's teams from China, Japan, Kazakhstan, Hong Kong and Thailand reflect the top five placed teams in the senior women's sevens circuit currently and is a testament to the home unions’ commitment to the development of women’s rugby in their respective countries.

All five teams have been grouped into a single pool and the group matches will be played on a round robin basis over the first two days. The top four teams will then play for the Gold to Bronze medals in on the third day of tournament.
