The rain which had been forecast for Manila held off for a clear and breezy day at the home of the Alabon Eagles where the Asian Women’s 15s 2012 Div II tournament was held this afternoon.

In the first of the playoffs, Singapore wasted little time in stamping their authority on the proceedings against Laos. The islanders enjoyed plenty of possession and territory in the first forty minutes with their forwards dominating the scrums and lineouts. Laos' indiscipline compounded their woes as Singapore ran in seven tries going 41 -0 into the second half.

Laos however came back bravely and even made a foray into the Singapore half through a fine break by Lao fullback Sisomphu Inthavong.  Singapore's attack stuttered in the third quarter but they soon found their groove and finished comfortably 74-0 to advance to Saturday’s finals.

Thailand opened the account in their game against third-seed Philippines, who put up an impressive defensive effort against a speedy Thai side, who this year, have the service of several of their sevens players who have been very successful on the Asian sevens circuit. But it was Thailand’s 18 year old, Uraiwan Cholee, who really impressed with some blistering runs on the wing to put her side up 26-5 at the half.  The Thais closed the game out with some ease but not before the Volcanoes added two more tries to a bring the final score to 50 -15.

Lao PDR will play the Philippines at 1330h on Saturday in the third-fourth playoff and the finals between Singapore and Thailand will kickoff at 1530h.
