Singapore A v Malaysia Preview: Singapore A announced

16 April 2010

Singapore A will be playing their first game on home ground on Saturday in the curtain raiser event against Malaysia before the HSBC Asian 5 Nation Division 1 finals day.

With the growth of the women’s game in Singapore and the establishment of the A Squad, Singapore National Women’s 15s Head Coach Sam Chan has been able to use Singapore A as a platform for assessing emerging talent for his senior squad and play selected senior squad members in other positions.

In addition, the Singapore A fixture against Malaysia has also allowed Chan to give some game time to senior squad members who previously may have been injured for unavailable for senior squad games.

Coached by current Singapore internationals, Eunice Tay and Wang Shao Ing, the 24 member squad has been training for the past two weeks and the final 22 for Saturday was announced yesterday.

Tay expects tomorrow's game to be a physical encounter. “Malaysia has a large pack of forwards which they will use to their full advantage. Singapore A’s last meeting with Malaysia was a tight match and Saturday will certainly be no different. Playing before the home crowd will be a big boost for the girls.”
