The Singapore National Women's 15s Team will head to Hong Kong tomorrow in a sterner test of their preparations for the IRB Women's Rugby World Cup Asian Qualifiers in November 2009. Although the games will not be accorded test match status, the fierce but friendly rivalry between the two side should see a tight game over the weekend.
The last time the two sides met in a 2-test series in December, Hong Kong came out slightly ahead with the first game tied at 10-10 and Hong Kong winning by a single try in the second game.
Save for the return from a head injury by Esther Phua and the loss of Leung Wai Mun, Singapore National Women's Coaches have named an unchanged squad against Hong Kong from the team that played Malaysia. Of the 23 named, 14 players starred in the game against Hong Kong in December.
Matches between the two countries have typically been bruising affairs. Compared to their game against Malaysia, the Singapore pack will have to ramp up its work rate this weekend to match Hong Kong's larger mobile pack of forwards who are well drilled at the set pieces and who will contest every breakdown.
Singapore will play Hong Kong at the So Kan Poh stadium at 1500h on Saturday.
