Singapore Names Team for Malaysia

30 September 2009

The Singapore National Coaches have named 23 from their 29 woman training squad to face Malaysia in the test this weekend.

History will be made as Malaysia sends out their first representative 15s side ever although it will not be the first time the team will be playing together as they took on the Singapore A side recently under the banner of the Malaysian Barbarians.

Based on their strong performances in the Singapore A v Malaysia game, Esther Phua and Samantha Teo were invited to join the Singapore National Women's 15s Training Squad. However, Phua may sit out this weekend as she recovers from a concussion and Singapore will also be without their veteran centre, Serena Yeoh, who is has been playing with considerable pain this season due to a knee injury which will put her out of the the IRB WRWC Asian Qualifiers.

Singapore are also without hooker, Gina Tan and utility back Haseena Allapitchay who are both not in the training squad due to their unavailability. This will likely give Koh Mei Giet a starting berth at hook and Angelina Liu her first cap somewhere in the back three.
