Singapore announced its XV squad for the 2008 Asian Rugby Football Union Women's XV Championships to be held in Taldykorgan, Kazakhstan from 2 - 8 June 2008.
Six nations will be fighting it out for the title in a double knockout format. In the first round on 3rd June, top seeds Japan and defending champions, Kazakhstan will meet early in the tournament with both teams automatically qualifying for the semifinals. In the other pools, Singapore will meet Kyrgyzstan and Hong Kong meet Uzbekistan to play for a spot in the semifinal rounds on 5 June 2008.
Each nation will play 3 games in the 5 day tournament. With one day's rest in between games, the tournament will be a gruelling one for each team of 24 but Team Manager, Audrey Koh, is confident the squad is up for the job.
"The format poses a bigger challenge this year and we've never played Kyrgyzstan before but we've put in 3 months of intense preparation for this tournament. The younger players are fitting in with the game plan and gelling well with the seniors. We'll definitely be using last year's narrow loss to Japan to spur ourselves on".
