Singapore v China
Pictures from SRU Albums
Singapore started strongly from the kick off against China to pin the Chinese in their half. Predictable at the lineout, China were pressurised by the Singapore jumpers and allowed Singapore to turn over the ball. Minutes into the game, Singapore led by a converted penalty through open-side flanker, Wang Shao Ing.
Composing themselves, China's defence came up strongly on the restart which earned them a turnover ball. Stretching the play wide, China scored their opening try in the fifteenth minute with some swift shifting of the ball.
Singapore came back fighting and we were awarded a penalty from some phase play in the nineteenth. Singapore converted to lead 6 – 5 for the first time in the republic's history against the Chinese but the 2006 ARFU Women's 15s Champions showed their mettle by dominating the scrums in the first half and making full use of their fitness and speedy backline.
The Singapore forwards were beefed by the shifting of skipper Serena Yeoh from inside center to blindside flank in the second half and the tight-five managed to rectify their scrummiging. However, the team was slow to drift in defence and let a couple of tackles slip allowing the Chinese to put in several running tries. The game ended at 39-6 to China.
